Technology
Technology is changing the way that people read literature. It is stated that only 9 percent of what we read comes from print in an article that I read. This is mainly due to the fact that we have devices such as netbooks, ipads, and e-readers. These devices of course would not work without the Internet, which is the largest factor in this trend. The Internet also impacts how we interact with literature and each other through social networking sites, such as facebook or through sites such as sparknotes. This technology has impacted my literacy, along with every other person with Internet connection. I find myself reading from Internet new reports instead of newspapers and getting sports updates from a sports websites instead of sports magazines. One reason I do this is because the technology makes finding and reading stuff a lot faster and easier then without it. It saves me time, which is very valuable in my sometimes hectic schedule. Even though technology has impacted my literacy greatly, it has not complete changed it. I have never considered reading novels online or from e-readers. This is because reading a novel calls for a book, not an electrical device. These devices can be faulty or easily damaged, while a book is not as easily damaged. I am not saying that technology is bad, all I am saying is that it is changing how we read and what we read.

So true--and I can't tell you how it has changed the world, especially the world of education. Research was a huge pain. HUGE! For every paper in high school and college I had to go to the library--and many times, even then, research was a drag because the books/articles I was looking for were already taken out by other students.... yikes, it was awful!
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting that only 9% of what we read comes from print, I did not think that the effect of technology was that drastic. Our generation has been largely impacted, but like what you said, it has not completely changedd our literacy, which is a good thing in my perspective
